# Drive better, 'nuff said
High-Performance Driver Education (HPDE) is not a racing school. Let's start with that.
The purpose of HPDE is quite simple: to improve your driving skills. We conduct the schools on racetracks under the close supervision of experienced and trained instructors. You will learn how to handle and control your vehicle at speeds not normally attained on public roads - in-car and in the classroom. This will help to prepare you for emergencies in normal driving. It will also allow you to explore your capabilities as a driver and those of your vehicle in a controlled environment. At no time will you be pushed or encouraged to go any faster than is comfortable to you. All participants will be organized into run groups in accordance with experience, skill, and type of vehicle.
HDPE takes several forms: closed circuit driver training (usually with an instructor as your co-pilot), teen driving school, winter/ice driving, and yes lapping (not quite racing) on a track. In most cases, you do use your own car. (For those who immediately say to themselves: "No way I'm using *my* car", we'll offer this: statistically, you are far, far more likely to wreck your car on city streets. HDPE will however make you a better, safer driver.)
Hi, I'm Trevor and I oversee the driver education activities for the Eastern chapter. As a certified instructor, I've been teaching for several years at many different tracks. If you've done HPDE before, all you will want to know is "where and when" - anyone who attends a HPDE always wants more, and that is great. Have a look at our Events tab for times and places.
If you have never done HPDE before, you are likely skeptical. Drop me an email at trevor.lewis@audiclubna.ca and let's chat. I try to arrange a few "guest" spots at HPDEs where people can drop by, see what is happening, talk with instructors and students, and maybe go for a short ride. Happy to arrange that, when we can accommodate.
In the meantime, here are a couple videos from the NorthEast Quattro chapter. I've been to their events and tracks and instructed. I'm in one of the videos! Similar HPDEs happen in Ontario and Quebec.
These are good examples of what happens during these events and what you'd experience.
